MsrA -/- homozygous mutant mice have a 40% shorter life-span than wild type or heterozygote animals.

Other phenotypes: MsrA -/- mice are sensitive to oxidative stress, accumulate higher levels of protein carbonyls, and demonstrate an atypical walking pattern.
