Median life span was reduced by 25% in G6 mTR -/- mice compared to wildtype or G1-G3 mTR-/- (18 months compared to 24 months).

Other phenotypes: These mice showed hair graying, hair loss, and ulcerative skin lesions. In addition, they had impaired response to wound healing and hematopoietic ablation, and an increased incidence of cancer. Telomerase null (mTR -/-) mice showed age-dependent telomere shortening and shortened lifespan with succeeding generations. Cells from mTR -/- mice (G4 and upward) showed chromosomes lacking detectable telomere repeats, aneuploidy, and end-to-end fusions [pubmed].
