Flies heterozygous for mutant alleles of EcR live approximately 45% longer (mean life-span) than wild-type flies.

Other phenotypes: Homozygous mutantion of EcR is inviable. Development time and weight of EcR +/- flies was the same as control animals, however resistance to temperature, oxidative stress, and starvation was increased in the heterozygotes [pubmed]. Mutation of DTS-3, a gene involved in ecdysone biosynthesis has a similar effect on longevity in female flies [pubmed].
