Citation Mockett RJ, Bayne AC, Kwong LK, Orr WC, Sohal RS. (2003). Ectopic expression of catalase in Drosophila mitochondria increases stress resistance but not longevity.. Free Radic. Biol. Med. 34: 207-17. [pubmed]
Details

Targeted overexpression of CAT in the mitochondrial matrix has no effect on life-span at 25C and slightly shortens life-span at 29C.

Other phenotypes: Targeted overexpression of CAT in the mitochondrial matrix results in increased resistance to endogenous hydrogen peroxide, paraquat, and cold stress [pubmed]. No effect on metabolic rate, activity, or resistance to hypoxia was noted. It has been previously reported that simultaneous overexpression of catalase and superoxide dismutase extends life-span in flies [pubmed].
