Homozygous Pit1 dw/dw animals show a 42% increase in mean life span.

Other phenotypes: Mutant mice also show delays in age-dependent collagen cross-linking and age-dependent indices of immune system status [pubmed]. Pit1 is required for normal development of the anterior pituitary. Activation of the Prop1 pathway is required for Pit1 expression [pubmed] [pubmed].
