Citation Wawryn J, Swieci?o A, Bartosz G, Bili?ski T. (2002). Effect of superoxide dismutase deficiency on the life span of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. An oxygen-independent role of . Biochim. Biophys. Acta 1570: 199-202. [pubmed]

Deletion of Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase decreases replicative life-span by approximately 40%.

Other phenotypes: The magnitude of the decrease in life-span does not appear to be dependent on oxygen concentration in the atmosphere [pubmed]. Deletion of SOD1 shortens chronological life-span as well as replicative life span [pubmed]. Overexpression of SOD1 has no effect on replicative life-span [pubmed].
